The Chancery Court Clerk and Master’s Office is responsible for conducting sales for delinquent property taxes in Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County. The procedure is an open public auction. To participate in the auction, all prospective bidders must register by completing an informational form before the sale. Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends promptly at 12:00 noon. Delinquent tax properties are sold only by public auction and will not be sold over the counter. The Clerk and Master’s Office does not issue Tax Certificates. Credit Cards are not
accepted. Purchase of the properties will not be financed through the Clerk and Master’s Office; payment must be made in full. Absentee bidding is not permitted; however, another individual can bid on your behalf in proxy, provided the appropriate form is completed prior to registration. The Metropolitan Government will typically purchase the property when there are no other bidders and will retain the property during the redemption period.
Changes to the Bidder Registration Form as of August 1, 2014.
1. Purchases will be conveyed in the name or names (s) shown on the registration form.
2. All persons who will be listed on the conveyance must be present at the sale and complete the bidder registration form.
3. If bidding on behalf of another individual you will be required to attach a copy of a recorded Power of Attorney to the bidder registration form.
4. If bidder on behalf of a corporation you must attach proof of eligibility to act on behalf of the corporate entity.
Acceptable proof include:
1. Printout from Secretary of State showing good/active standing.
2. Certificate of Existence issued within the last year from TN Secretary of State.
3. Copy of Corporate charter.
4. Copy of annual minutes showing President, Vice-President, Secretary, etc.
